Butterfly House & Feeder

Part of our conservation range, providing a suitable environment for butterflies to feed and shelter.

In the summer months’ butterflies, can feed on sweet ripe fruit placed in the stainless-steel dish. During the winter butterflies, can shelter and over-winter.

Siting

Place the butterfly house & feeder in a sheltered but sunny position, out of prevailing winds.

Place pieces of nice dry bark and add other dry materials such as straw and leaves to create a nice cosy home for butterflies and other over-wintering beneficial insects.

Sow your wildflower seed mix nearby to help encourage butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects.

Feeding

The stainless-steel dish can be regularly filled with Creative Woodcraft’s bird, bee and butterfly nectar that contains added vitamins and minerals or a sugar water solution. Spring and late summer are good times to feed as natural nectar sources can be harder to find.

Regularly clean the stainless-steel bowl to prevent build-up of bacteria.

Place over-ripe fruit in the dish - the sweeter the better.

Maintenance

The butterfly house & feeder is made from quality timber sourced from locally, sustainably managed forest plantations. Non-toxic water based stains and sealants are used wherever possible in the manufacturing of our products. The coloured roof has been painted using a water based stain and is a decorative finish. The colour can be topped up periodically to maintain its appearance.

Observation

You should see butterflies, hoverflies and beneficial bees and wasps using this feeder. The overwintering chamber will provide a perfect shelter for many beneficial garden insects such as: butterflies, lacewings, and ladybirds.
